Dallas Black Dance Theatre celebrates DanceAfrica’s 15th anniversary in Dallas with a cultural tradition to touch your soul. Special guest artist Step Afrika! of Washington, DC showcases the tradition of Stepping.

Dallas’ own Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble will energize you with the distinctive art form honoring West African influenced music and dance.

DBDT and DBDT: Encore! along with the Allegro Performing Ensemble, Senior Performing Ensemble and the Junior Performing Ensemble of the Dallas Black Dance Academy will dance across the Dallas Arts District making its magnificent outdoor spaces their stage. Members of the DeSoto High School A Capella Choir will add their exquisite, soothing voices to the performance.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre celebrates the 15th Anniversary of DanceAfrica with a virtual cultural tradition to touch your soul including special guest artist Step Afrika!

Step Afrika!’s signature performance shares the step tradition including a complex polyrhythmic percussive symphony that brings audiences to their feet. The company has evolved into one of America’s cultural exports touring more than 60 countries across the globe. Step Afrika! ranks as one of the top ten African American dance companies in the United States.

 

Bandan Koro

Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble shares experiences associated with African culture and history through the medium of dance, music, and specialized presentations to foster a greater awareness, understanding, appreciation, and respect for African related music, dance, and culture. 

DeSoto High School A Capella Choir

Award-winning DeSoto High School A Cappella Choir will be singing melodic and inspiring songs that capture the spirit of the African tradition during DanceAfrica. The students who audition for the choir have to maintain excellent grades and citizenship. The A Capella Choir is “the premier, auditioned Varsity mixed choir composed of freshman through seniors who exhibit high levels of commitment and dedication.”

Founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, the mission of Dallas Black Dance Theatre is to create and produce contemporary modern dance at its highest level of artistic excellence through performances and educational programs that bridge cultures and reach diverse communities. With an ever-expanding national and global audience, the company employs a diverse, multi-ethnic troupe of dancers performing for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

DBDT: Encore! Represents the next generation of Dallas Black Dance Theatre with dance performances of the highest level of artistic quality and relentless excellence. Founded in 2000 by Ann Williams, DBDT: Encore! is the professional training company for Dallas Black Dance Theatre, consisting of eight classically trained and highly skilled dancers from around the nation to keep up with demand and continue to serve its local community.
