Get out your cowboy boots and get ready to boogie because Dallas Black Dance Theatre is closing its 45th anniversary season with a city-wide dance party worthy of the BIG D.

The event will be an unforgettable night of Country Western flair, including a live concert and video tribute, dance party, dance lessons, food, and drinks. Special performances for the live concert will feature country music artist and Charley Pride’s son, Dion Pride, and two-time CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year, Janie Fricke. After-party dance entertainment will include fiddle duo June Blount and the country music group Breckenridge Band.

Charley Pride was the first Black member inducted into. theCountry Music Hall of Fame in 2000 and its credited as Country Music’s first black superstar, the first artist of any race to win the CMA’s male vocalist award for two consecutive years (1971 & 1972), and first African American singer inducted in the Grand Ole Opry. Often called “the Jackie Robinson of Country” his legacy includes thirty-one gold and four platinum albums; one. of which has reached quadruple platinum, making him the second in sales for RCA Records only to Elvis Presley. Mr. Pride received numerous Grammy’s and his success was catapulted by such hits as “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin” and “Just Between You and Me.”

Born in Mississippi, Charley Pride and his wife Rozene made their home in Dallas, Texas in the 1970s. Mr. Pride was known for breaking systemic racial barriers inside and outside of music and pursued a career in baseball in the Negro American League in his youth. He later became a presence in major league baseball as a part-owner in the Texas Rangers. His contributions to music history are significant to both the international country music scene and the local Dallas community.
